# Area

Area can seem straightforward, LENGTH X WIDTH, right?

Learning this basic formula is obviously fundamental to understanding area. However, don’t be fooled! Very rarely will your child be asked a straightforward area question in the AQE or GL. It may be the area of an L-Shape, Area with Scale, a Fraction or Percentage of an Area or even the Area of a Compound Shape integrating a cuboid and a triangle. Depending on what numbers are being used this can also lead to Long Multiplication - GULP!
